CALL UNTO ME, AND I WILL ANSWER YOU AND SHOW YOU GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS WHICH YOU DON’T KNOW. JEREMIAH 33:3
God wants us to come to Him in prayer and He promises to answer us. The Hebrew word for call here means to cry out, or cry out loudly. God doesn’t want us to come timidly before Him. He wants us to come boldly before His throne of grace. Prayer is meant to be so much more than a hastily said word before a meal or bed.
God wants us to come to Him as our Jehovah Rohi, our caring shepherd….as our Jehovah Rapha – the God who heals…as our Jehovah Shammah – the God who is there…as our Jehovah Jireh the God who provides…He is powerful and mighty… He is the Creator of All…the Alpha and Omega and He wants you to come to Him and call upon Him as comfortably as a child comes before his father…He is our Abba Father and we are His children…even though He knows our needs before we ask, He wants us to come and spend time in His presence, to fellowship with Him and to receive from Him.
When this verse says that He wants to tell us great and mighty things we don’t know, God is offering to reveal things that only He knows… things that can’t be discovered any other way apart from Him! God holds the knowledge and secrets of the universe. Think of Jesus telling Peter to find a coin in the mouth of a fish to pay his taxes; God showing Joshua how to conquer Jericho by marching around the walls; Moses crossing the Red Sea; David using a sling slot to kill Goliath. God has answers and solutions to problems that the world cannot give, but we must spend time with Him to hear His voice. His promises should drive us to prayer. God delights in making a way where there seems to be no way. He loves to show Himself in ways that no one can deny it is Him at work. He is the God of the impossible and He is still doing miracles today.
