John 14:27

John 14 3

PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU, MY PEACE I GIVE TO YOU; NOT AS THE WORLD GIVES DO I GIVE TO YOU. LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED, NEITHER LET IT BE AFRAID.- JOHN 14:27

To the world, peace means to be without problems, conflict or stress.  The peace that Jesus offers is something that the world cannot give or take away… it defies circumstances…it defies logic…for someone who has never experienced it, that kind of peace can seem unattainable or impossible…but Jesus is the Prince of Peace. With one word, He can calm the winds and waves and He can fill the willing heart, with His peace that passes all understanding.

Christ offers us His peace, but it is up to us to accept it by faith. We are told in multiple scriptures that the way to find peace is to keep our thoughts focused on Christ. We think of the Apostle Peter walking on the water. As long as he focused on Jesus, he was at peace and oblivious to the stormy waves that were crashing around him. As soon as he took his eyes off of the Lord and focused on what was going on around him, he became fearful and began to go under.

When we open our hearts and minds to all that Jesus wants to give us, we receive the miraculous…our circumstances may not change, but our attitude can and that is enough to find His peace. Peter had to lose his fear and take a giant leap of faith to step out of that boat and Christ calls us to take a step of faith as well. The world cannot give us Christ’s peace, and it can’t take it away from us… but we can surrender it, by shifting our focus from Jesus and letting fear become more powerful than our faith. May you find the courage to let go of all that holds you back and step out in faith to receive the peace that Christ is offering you today.

Psalm 28:7

Psalm 287

THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH AND MY SHIELD; MY HEART TRUSTS IN HIM, AND HE HELPS ME – PSALM 28:7

This verse is such an encouragement during times of trial and struggle. So, often when we feel weak, we pray, “Lord, give me strength.” There are many scriptures that talk about God being strong in our weakness. This verse reminds us that we shouldn’t depend on God just to give us strength, we should rely on Him to be our strength. A shepherd knows and anticipates what the needs of his flock are. Jesus as the Good Shepherd, knows our needs as well.

When someone is feeling worn out and weak, they are vulnerable…physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually … they are not at their best and they need protection and help. Jesus, as our Shepherd, offers that protection along with His strength. He puts a hedge of protection about us and keeps a watchful eye on us.

Our God in His goodness, supplies all that we need…always. As we trust Him, lean on Him and depend on Him, He helps us.  Our ability to meet our challenges comes from the Lord. He is our strength, power and provider.  He will not fail us.

If you are struggling today, don’t be afraid to trust the Lord…don’t think that you have to face things by yourself…come to Him in your weakness and find rest. Let Him lead you beside the still waters so He can restore your soul and help you to regain your strength.

Psalm 30:11

Psalm 30

YOU HAVE TURNED MY MOURNING INTO JOYFUL DANCING. YOU HAVE TAKEN AWAY MY CLOTHES OF MOURNING AND CLOTHED ME WITH JOY – PSALM 30:11

The Bible tells us there are seasons for everything…a time to weep and a time to laugh…a time to mourn and a time to dance. When we read through the Psalms, we read of the writer’s  cries of anguish and pain, as well as the prayers of thanksgiving and praise for God’s faithfulness and restoration.

When we lose a loved one, we are never the same. We don’t “get over” their death… but with God’s help, we learn to move on from our pain. The Lord will turn our mourning to joy. From where you are standing now, that may seem improbable…even impossible…but the Bible tells us in Romans, that the stories and truths the Word contains, are to encourage us and give us hope. His promises are for yesterday, today and forever and we must take God at His word. He will turn our mourning to joy if we allow Him. We must believe it, to receive it.

God in His graciousness, heals us by giving us more of Himself…by filling the broken places in our hearts with His love, His truth, His peace, His hope and His joy. He comforts us… and fills us with His strength to carry on. He teaches us through His Word to look at things from an eternal perspective and to have hope that this life is not the end. We  can rejoice that death was defeated and we do not grieve as those who have no hope.

There is a time and a place for grief…it is a passage to healing, but it is not a place to stay. God can help us to do what we can’t do on our own. He leads us through the valley of the shadow of death and teaches us not only how to live again, but to do so full of His joy.

Psalm 56:8

psalm 56

YOU HAVE KEPT COUNT OF MY WANDERINGS. PUT MY TEARS IN YOUR BOTTLE- HAVE NOT YOU RECORDED THEM IN YOUR BOOK?- PSALM 56:8

God keeps a watchful eye on His children. He has told us that He knows everything about our lives before we have lived one day…so He knows every trial we will face…He knows how severe they will be…how long they will last…He knows every loss we will face and every time that we will mourn…He knows how He will use each of these things for our good and His glory…

When we think that there is no one who sees our hidden pain or tears, this verse shows that we can be assured that God hears our cries and knows our pain and our heartaches. He not only see our tears, but He collects them…they are precious to Him and not wasted. We know that God is near to the brokenhearted. Can you picture the Lord by your side and lovingly and compassionately taking your tears from you? You are not forgotten during your times of grief, sadness and turmoil…others may not be around…people may abandon or forget you, but you cannot say that about your Heavenly Father. Even though you may not feel His presence at times, we can be sure that He is not only aware of our circumstances, but He is lovingly by our side, collecting our tears, recording them and redeeming them.

Psalm 40:5

Psalm 405

MANY, LORD MY GOD, ARE THE WONDERS YOU HAVE DONE, THE THINGS YOU PLANNED FOR US. NONE CAN COMPARE WITH YOU; WERE I TO SPEAK AND TELL OF YOUR DEEDS, THEY WOULD BE TOO MANY TO DECLARE – PSALM 40:5 (NIV)

We will never be able to count the many wonders that God has done. If you think about how God has planned all of creation, heaven, hell, redemption, his acts of mercy and kindness, acts of protection and provision…just those few subjects alone would be more than we could ever list or mention….and that doesn’t include how much God thinks about each one of His children…we are told that His thoughts of us outweigh the grains of sand.

God cares about you…He has known you since before you were in your mother’s womb and He has written all of your days in His book before you ever lived one day. You matter enough to God that He sent His Son to die in your place…what you go through matters to Him…He sees our lives from beginning to end and He has already figured out how to redeem what the enemy has meant for harm and how to work everything together for your good.

When you are tempted to think that God has forgotten you… or that He doesn’t care about you or what you are going through… use this verse to counter that lie from the enemy. You are precious to God. His thoughts about you and His plans for you, can’t be counted or measured.

Zephaniah 3:17

zephaniah 317

THE LORD YOUR GOD IS IN YOUR MIDST, THE MIGHTY ONE, WILL SAVE; HE WILL REJOICE OVER YOU WITH GLADNESS, HE WILL QUIET YOU WITH HIS LOVE, HE WILL REJOICE OVER YOU WITH SINGING – Zephaniah 3:17

This verse speaks of God’s character…it shows an emotional side of God…it shows how much He loves and cares for His children… He doesn’t take a back seat approach as our Heavenly Father, He is a “hands on father” who wants to be involved in our lives because He loves being our Father …He rejoices over our triumphs and walks with us through our trials…He is intimately aware of all that we think, say and do and all that is going on in our lives.

He is mighty…He is our champion, our protector, defender and advocate who rescues and saves us…from our sin… from ourselves… from our enemies. As King and as our Heavenly Father, He offers us the many resources at His disposal to see us through this life…things like His peace, His strength, His provision, His angels about us, His hope, support and encouragement…

He will rejoice over you, means He delights and takes pleasure in you as a parent does for their child…we bring Him joy …

He quiets us with His love…think of how a parent quiets an upset child…by giving comfort…by offering love, support and encouragement…by wiping away tears… by offering rest…by calming our anxieties, fears and worries… by giving us His promises and assurances that He is in control and He will always be with us to protect us and love us…

The Hebrew word used here to describe how our Father, sings is ‘rinnah’. It means a cry of gladness, joy, proclamation, rejoicing, shouting, singing, triumph…He rejoices over us with a shout of joy…

May you find comfort as you think about this amazing verse… You are not alone and you are so loved by God!

Psalm 91:15

Psalm 91-15

WHEN THEY CALL TO ME, I WILL ANSWER THEM; WHEN THEY ARE IN TROUBLE, I WILL BE WITH THEM. I WILL RESCUE THEM AND HONOR THEM. – PSALM 91:15

This verse has multiple promises to us by God and it is such a comfort in times of trouble and need. God promises that when we call out to Him, He will answer. We don’t have to wonder if God hears our prayers. He assures us He does.  We can be sure that when God answers, it will always be right on time and with our best interest in mind.

God promises to be with us in times of trouble. Our friends and family may not always be around when we need them, but God promises to be with us AND to rescue us. We can count on Him. So whether we can feel His presence or not, He is with us. We can’t let our feelings be the indicator of God’s nearness. We must take God at His word.

God honors those who call out to Him in truth… He honors those who trust Him… He honors those who believe in Him, serve Him and take Him at His word. At times we may not feel cherished or important to others, but the Creator of All honors us…what an overwhelming thought. If you are struggling with feelings of self-doubt or thinking that God doesn’t care about you or what you are going through, let these words really sink in. God’s promises to you couldn’t be any clearer…you are important to God and He doesn’t want you to face your trials, or pain alone.
