Isaiah 41:13

Isaiah 4113

FOR I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD WHO TAKES HOLD OF YOUR RIGHT HAND AND SAYS TO YOU, DO NOT FEAR; I WILL HELP YOU. Isaiah 41:13

This promise reminds the believer of how intimately and personally involved in our lives God is. God takes our hand, just as a parent  takes the hand of their child to reassure them. God want us to know that everything will be okay, that He is  beside us and  will give us His help…we will get through this together…that’s the kind of assurance God is giving us…His personal assurance and promise that He is with us and helping us.

This promise reminds us of God’s tenderness towards us. He has compassion for us. He takes delight in us. He knows we need his help and companionship as we face the difficult things in life. He doesn’t turn us away in our moment of need. When we are tempted to question where God is in the midst of our struggles and difficulties, we need to remember that God is beside us and walking with us… even if we can’t feel His presence…our faith and trust must be based on more than feelings. We must believe and trust God’s promises to us. They are Living Water when we feel our spirit is dry and parched. His promises are The Daily Bread we need  to nourish our spirits and give us  strength. We have God’s promise that He will help us. It’s up to believe it and receive it.

Psalm 147:3

Psalm 147

HE HEALS THE BROKENHEARTED AND BINDS UP THEIR WOUNDS- PSALM 147:3

In the Old Testament, God is called  Jehovah Rapha, which means the God who heals. Rapha means “to restore, to heal, or to cure.” God is our great physician. He can do what no man can do…he created our hearts and He knows better than anyone how to heal and restore what has been broken in our lives.

No one wants to feel pain. We think pain should end as soon as we pray for God to take it away… and when it doesn’t happen that way, we think that God doesn’t hear us or He doesn’t care. But restoration is a process that is not quick, painless or easy and it always takes longer than we would like. After some heart breaks, such in the death of a loved one or a divorce, we are changed and our lives will never be the same again. But God as our healer, works in the life yielded to Him… emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. He fills the broken places in our lives with more of Himself…He gives more grace, more peace, more joy, more strength…through our brokenness, we find God in ways we can’t when things are good…He draws us closer to Himself, than we could ever believe was possible if we allow Him to.

We often hear the saying, “time heals all wounds,” but this is not true. Time only passes. It is what we do during the time of grief that brings about healing. When we turn to our Jehovah Rapha, He not only comforts us, but He pours into us things that the world can’t give. He knows our pain. He sees our tears. He hears our cries. He is full of loving compassion and mercy. He wants us to come to Him when we are hurting and broken, so He can heal us and make us whole in a way that only He can.

If you are brokenhearted and think that you will never be healed, claim this verse…cling to it…and believe that God is faithful to carry out what He promises. God does not fail anyone who comes to Him for restoration.

Psalm 40:5

Psalm 405

MANY, LORD MY GOD, ARE THE WONDERS YOU HAVE DONE, THE THINGS YOU PLANNED FOR US. NONE CAN COMPARE WITH YOU; WERE I TO SPEAK AND TELL OF YOUR DEEDS, THEY WOULD BE TOO MANY TO DECLARE – PSALM 40:5 (NIV)

We will never be able to count the many wonders that God has done. If you think about how God has planned all of creation, heaven, hell, redemption, his acts of mercy and kindness, acts of protection and provision…just those few subjects alone would be more than we could ever list or mention….and that doesn’t include how much God thinks about each one of His children…we are told that His thoughts of us outweigh the grains of sand.

God cares about you…He has known you since before you were in your mother’s womb and He has written all of your days in His book before you ever lived one day. You matter enough to God that He sent His Son to die in your place…what you go through matters to Him…He sees our lives from beginning to end and He has already figured out how to redeem what the enemy has meant for harm and how to work everything together for your good.

When you are tempted to think that God has forgotten you… or that He doesn’t care about you or what you are going through… use this verse to counter that lie from the enemy. You are precious to God. His thoughts about you and His plans for you, can’t be counted or measured.

Zephaniah 3:17

zephaniah 317

THE LORD YOUR GOD IS IN YOUR MIDST, THE MIGHTY ONE, WILL SAVE; HE WILL REJOICE OVER YOU WITH GLADNESS, HE WILL QUIET YOU WITH HIS LOVE, HE WILL REJOICE OVER YOU WITH SINGING – Zephaniah 3:17

This verse speaks of God’s character…it shows an emotional side of God…it shows how much He loves and cares for His children… He doesn’t take a back seat approach as our Heavenly Father, He is a “hands on father” who wants to be involved in our lives because He loves being our Father …He rejoices over our triumphs and walks with us through our trials…He is intimately aware of all that we think, say and do and all that is going on in our lives.

He is mighty…He is our champion, our protector, defender and advocate who rescues and saves us…from our sin… from ourselves… from our enemies. As King and as our Heavenly Father, He offers us the many resources at His disposal to see us through this life…things like His peace, His strength, His provision, His angels about us, His hope, support and encouragement…

He will rejoice over you, means He delights and takes pleasure in you as a parent does for their child…we bring Him joy …

He quiets us with His love…think of how a parent quiets an upset child…by giving comfort…by offering love, support and encouragement…by wiping away tears… by offering rest…by calming our anxieties, fears and worries… by giving us His promises and assurances that He is in control and He will always be with us to protect us and love us…

The Hebrew word used here to describe how our Father, sings is ‘rinnah’. It means a cry of gladness, joy, proclamation, rejoicing, shouting, singing, triumph…He rejoices over us with a shout of joy…

May you find comfort as you think about this amazing verse… You are not alone and you are so loved by God!

Philippians 4:19

Phil 419

BUT MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEEDS ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY BY CHRIST JESUS.  Phil 4:19

One of the names for God in the Old Testament is Jehovah-Jireh, which means the God who provides.  God is concerned about all of our needs…physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and financially. When the Apostle Paul wrote this, he made it clear, God didn’t just provide for some of our needs, but He will provide for all of our needs. God has bountiful provision and He loves to lavish us with gifts that the world can’t give or take away.

When we are grieving, He provides comfort. When we are weak, He provides strength. When we are tempted, He provides a way of escape. When we needed a Savior, He gave us Jesus…

God knows our needs before we ask and He is faithful to provide. We have seen in scripture how He takes a few fish and loaves of bread and makes more than enough…He can bring manna from heaven…water from rocks…a coin from a fish’s mouth… make the blind to see…close the mouths of lions and give oil to overflowing for a widow…God knows our every need and He will provide what He thinks is best… and often it is in a way that makes it clear, He is the one providing.

God’s timing is rarely ours. He knows we need to learn things like patience, trust and perseverance and so we have to trust that He is looking not only at our immediate needs, but also at the bigger picture of our lives.  His timing is  always perfect and He will fulfill His promises to us, on that we can depend.

Isaiah 41:10

Isaiah 41

FEAR NOT, FOR I AM WITH YOU; BE NOT DISMAYED, FOR I AM YOUR GOD; I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU, I WILL HELP YOU, I WILL UPHOLD YOU WITH MY RIGHTEOUS RIGHT HAND. Isaiah 41:10

God made this promise to the children of Israel, but it applies to all of His children. There are many things in this world that can make us fearful and can cause us to look around with alarm… that is what dismayed means here. But like Peter walking on the water, if we keep our eyes on Jesus and not the things around us, we will be filled with peace and be enabled to do what we could never do on our own.

Why does God tell us not to be afraid? Because He promises to be with us…in other passages, He tells us that He will never leave us or forsake us. God is our protector and if He is for us, who can be against us? We can be calm, hopeful and confident, because no matter what we face, the God that holds and sustains the universe in His righteous right hand, is holding us…He is strengthening us…He is helping us. If we could see God in the flesh standing with us, we would not be afraid of anything…so we must act as though we see Him… that’s what faith is all about!

Meditate on this promise and let it fill you with strength and courage, so that faith instead of fear, will become your first response to troubling situations.

Romans 8:28

Romans 8

WE KNOW THAT ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE GOD,  FOR THOSE WHO ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE – Romans 8:28

This verse is a promise to all Christians who love God. It does not mean all things are good… it does not mean the death of a child or loved one is good… (and it is wrong and hurtful to tell someone grieving that it is!) This verse does not mean that suffering, illness, pain or loss are good…these are not desirable circumstances, they are difficult and hard…God never intended for us to experience any of these things, they are the  result of living in a fallen world…BUT, we have this promise… God, in His sovereignty, has a plan in place for each believer to redeem everything for an eternal weight of glory. We may, or may not see this side of heaven, how God is working our circumstances for good, but WE KNOW, He will do this for each person that loves God. We can at this moment take comfort and rest in His promise, knowing that one day we will clearly see and understand everything.

One of the greatest examples of this promise would be the life of Joseph. He was betrayed and sold into slavery by his brothers, torn away from his family and homeland. He was falsely accused of a crime and imprisoned, left alone and forgotten…there was nothing good about any of those situations … but the tragic events of his life led him to be in the right place at the right time so that God could place Joseph in a position to save thousands of lives. All that the enemy meant for Joseph’s harm, God redeemed and used for good and God’s glory. (Genesis 50:20)

Take comfort friend. God has a plan and ALL things are being worked together for your good.
