Matthew 11:28

Matthew 11

COME TO ME, ALL WHO ARE WEARY AND BURDENED AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST –  Matthew 11:28

This promise starts with a compassionate invitation that he gives to all, not just a select few…but  we must accept the invitation, if we wish to see the promise fulfilled. Jesus is a Savior who fully understands our humanness. He understands what it is like to be weary. He understands what it is like to deal with the burdens and effects of sin we must face in this life.

God makes a way for us to handle our burdens. He offers to set us free from our heavy loads. He offers to set us free from the burden of sin and death. He doesn’t ask us to carry anything by ourselves. He doesn’t ask us to muddle through on our own strength. He doesn’t tell us to toughen up, man up, or prove to Him how strong we are. He tells  us lovingly and simply, to come to Him. He offers us true compassion and understanding of our strengths, weaknesses and failures. He offers to carry the heavy weights that we are too weak to carry on our own. He offers to replace our weakness with His own strength.  He offers us to step inside of His abilities, so we can find His peace and rest. No one can offer what He does.

Friends, don’t try to tough things out by yourself. Don’t give your burdens to the Lord and then take them back. Don’t think you have anything to prove… or that you have to earn His love or approval. He paid the price and He freely gives. He is standing waiting with outstretched arms to all who will accept His offer. Reach out and enter into His rest today.

John 14:27

John 14 3

PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU, MY PEACE I GIVE TO YOU; NOT AS THE WORLD GIVES DO I GIVE TO YOU. LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED, NEITHER LET IT BE AFRAID.- JOHN 14:27

To the world, peace means to be without problems, conflict or stress.  The peace that Jesus offers is something that the world cannot give or take away… it defies circumstances…it defies logic…for someone who has never experienced it, that kind of peace can seem unattainable or impossible…but Jesus is the Prince of Peace. With one word, He can calm the winds and waves and He can fill the willing heart, with His peace that passes all understanding.

Christ offers us His peace, but it is up to us to accept it by faith. We are told in multiple scriptures that the way to find peace is to keep our thoughts focused on Christ. We think of the Apostle Peter walking on the water. As long as he focused on Jesus, he was at peace and oblivious to the stormy waves that were crashing around him. As soon as he took his eyes off of the Lord and focused on what was going on around him, he became fearful and began to go under.

When we open our hearts and minds to all that Jesus wants to give us, we receive the miraculous…our circumstances may not change, but our attitude can and that is enough to find His peace. Peter had to lose his fear and take a giant leap of faith to step out of that boat and Christ calls us to take a step of faith as well. The world cannot give us Christ’s peace, and it can’t take it away from us… but we can surrender it, by shifting our focus from Jesus and letting fear become more powerful than our faith. May you find the courage to let go of all that holds you back and step out in faith to receive the peace that Christ is offering you today.

Psalm 32:8

Psalm 32-8

I  WILL INSTRUCT YOU AND TEACH YOU IN THE WAY YOU SHOULD GO; I WILL COUNSEL YOU WITH MY LOVING EYE ON YOU – Psalm 32:8

God wants you to succeed in your life. He wants to impart His wisdom and discernment to you. He wants to teach you things that will benefit you and help you grow and mature in Him. He wants to guide you on the path of righteousness and give you day-to-day guidance as well. God is invested in your life and He wants to equip you for all that you face.

God has His loving eye on you…He is not some detached, casual, uninterested observer of your life. He is watching you as a loving Father watches over His child. He knows you by name. He sees your needs and has a good plan already figured out. He knows how to provide for you, because He is fully aware of everything that is going on in your life. His eye is upon you so He can protect you, help you, provide for you, comfort you, carry your burden and meet your needs. He cares about every aspect of your life.

Many people wonder where God is when they are going through difficulties. This scripture can give you comfort as you cling to His promise that He is beside you with His loving eye on you.

Philippians 4:19

Phil 419

BUT MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEEDS ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY BY CHRIST JESUS.  Phil 4:19

One of the names for God in the Old Testament is Jehovah-Jireh, which means the God who provides.  God is concerned about all of our needs…physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and financially. When the Apostle Paul wrote this, he made it clear, God didn’t just provide for some of our needs, but He will provide for all of our needs. God has bountiful provision and He loves to lavish us with gifts that the world can’t give or take away.

When we are grieving, He provides comfort. When we are weak, He provides strength. When we are tempted, He provides a way of escape. When we needed a Savior, He gave us Jesus…

God knows our needs before we ask and He is faithful to provide. We have seen in scripture how He takes a few fish and loaves of bread and makes more than enough…He can bring manna from heaven…water from rocks…a coin from a fish’s mouth… make the blind to see…close the mouths of lions and give oil to overflowing for a widow…God knows our every need and He will provide what He thinks is best… and often it is in a way that makes it clear, He is the one providing.

God’s timing is rarely ours. He knows we need to learn things like patience, trust and perseverance and so we have to trust that He is looking not only at our immediate needs, but also at the bigger picture of our lives.  His timing is  always perfect and He will fulfill His promises to us, on that we can depend.
